[BAKS OFFICE] On the backlash vs MJ Lastimosa’s “Barbie” tweets

Last Sunday, I received two different perspectives on the "Barbie" movie from two of my friends, and it reminded me again that diverse opinions are perfectly fine. When I started #RalphRecommends, my intention was to connect with friends who had similar tastes in movies. However, as some of them became less active on social media, I considered discontinuing my movie recommendations. Surprisingly, I discovered that there are still a few people who genuinely appreciate and value my suggestions.

The beauty of not being a cinema gatekeeper lies in the fact that every individual, regardless of their background, should have the right to express their opinions about the films they've watched and paid for. While some may dismiss these viewpoints as ignorant, it's important to respect their perspective and acknowledge that different people have varying tastes in music, food, fashion, relationships, and movies — and that's completely acceptable.

As I've matured over time, I've learned not to look down upon those who don't share the same enthusiasm for my movie recommendations. Instead, I see it as a natural filtering process that helps me connect with individuals who have similar “cinematic preferences.”

Certainly, celebrities carry a responsibility to be cautious when reducing an important movie like “Barbie” to a mere "school project." Nonetheless, they are entitled to express their feelings about a movie they've personally experienced. Their thoughts and taste in movies can reveal valuable insights about them, and that, I believe, is enough.
