First trailer for 'Joker: Folie à Deux' released

“I’m not alone anymore.”

Fans of the gritty 2019 film Joker were treated to a long-awaited first look at the sequel, Joker: Folie à Deux, with the release of the film's trailer on Wednesday (Manila time).

The trailer features the return of Oscar winner Joaquin Phoenix as Arthur Fleck, the downtrodden man who descended into madness and became the iconic villain Joker.

Set to the hopeful strains of "What the World Needs Now Is Love," the teaser opens with Fleck confined in Arkham Asylum. He then catches sight of a new face - Harley Quinn, played by fellow Oscar winner Lady Gaga.

The two share a moment, with Gaga's character telling Fleck, "Let's get out of here."

The trailer closes on a powerful scene. With bold red lipstick, Gaga smears a happy face on the glass barrier separating her from Fleck. "I wanna see the real you," she whispers.

The first Joker film shocked audiences and the box office in 2019, grossing over $1 billion worldwide and becoming the highest-earning R-rated movie ever made.

The excitement continues to build for Joker: Folie à Deux, which is set to hit theaters on October 4th.
