‘And So It Begins’ trailer released

Documentary on Leni Robredo’s presidential campaign coming to Philippines

(UPDATED) The trailer for And So It Begins, directed by acclaimed filmmaker Ramona Diaz, has just been released. It offers an intriguing look into Former Vice President Leni Robredo's pivotal role in the Philippines’ 2022 presidential election.

The documentary debuted at the Sundance Film Festival earlier this year and provides a close-up view of the final months of Rodrigo Duterte’s presidential term and the intense lead-up to the election.

Set against the backdrop of the COVID-19 pandemic, And So It Begins captures the vibrant and unconventional resistance movement challenging the rise of autocracy, with Leni Robredo emerging as a key figure of hope during a time of significant political upheaval.

The trailer also highlights Nobel laureate Maria Ressa and the challenges faced by her and Rappler due to political bullying during Duterte’s tenure.

And So It Begins is expected to provide an insightful exploration of Robredo’s leadership and the broader struggle for democracy in the Philippines. The film will premiere in cinemas nationwide on August 21, 2024.
