Free screening of ‘Aswang’ documentary follows Duterte’s arrest

MANILA, Philippines — In the wake of former President Rodrigo Duterte’s arrest on an international warrant, a free screening of “Aswang,” a documentary examining the human toll of his drug war, has been made available to the public.

From March 11 to 18, 2025, Alyx Ayn G. Arumpac’s critically acclaimed film will be accessible for streaming at https://bit.ly/DuterteAswang. The documentary, which won multiple international awards, presents a harrowing account of extrajudicial killings and their impact on Filipino communities.

Among its accolades, “Aswang” received the FIPRESCI Prize at the International Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam (2019), the Grand Prize at the DMZ International Documentary Festival (2020), and the International Feature Film Grand Prize at the Montreal International Documentary Festival (2020). It was also honored at the FAMAS Awards with Best Picture, Best Documentary, Best Editing, and Best Cinematography (2020) and won Best Picture, Best Documentary, Best Director, and Best Cinematography at the Gawad Urian Awards (2021).

Through the perspectives of journalists, human rights activists, and the families of victims, the film follows individuals affected by Duterte’s violent anti-drug campaign and exposes the brutal reality of state-sanctioned killings. Watch it here.
