Upon his arrival, the Prosecutor General served the ICC notification for an arrest warrant against the former President on charges of crimes against humanity.

Government doctors examined Duterte and confirmed that he was in good health. The PCO also stated that Philippine National Police officials executing the warrant ensured they were equipped with body cameras.

Duterte is now in the custody of the relevant authorities, the PCO statement confirmed.

The ICC has been investigating Duterte since 2018 over allegations of “crimes against humanity” related to his violent anti-drug campaign that led to the deaths of thousands of Filipinos during his tenure in office.
